Portraiture: Gab Lupinetti

I met Gab on New Year’s Eve through a friend of a friend of a friend and we hit it off immediately. She’s Italian, that much was obvious, and what my paternal grandmother would call “a Glamazon.” Gab was decked out in sparkles and accessories that were just so fitting for NYE. Little did I know, Gab is a bona fide fashionista (to use an early aughts term) who works for Nuuly and regularly dresses to the nines.

I later asked her if she would be willing to let me shoot her as I build my digital and film portraiture portfolios. Gab kindly jumped at the idea, and so over Veuve and ample cuddles from her dogs Macaroni and Girlfriend, I photographed her with my Canon R6 and Pentax K1000. Gab was an easy subject – gorgeous, grounding, and a good listener. Her apartment was a mecca to all things sensual and antique and was simultaneously minimalist and maximalist, which is also how I would describe Gab’s style and personality, to the extent to which I know her.

In short, working with Gab was a joy and I was surprised to discover that I liked the digital photos I’d taken of her even more than the 35mm photos. This has never happened before and I’m learning that the only way to excel at digital is to Just Keep Shooting.

Thanks, Gab, for a wonderful afternoon!
