hanna and i left for “robyn’s nest” on the third of july. first we visited montauk, the tip of long island which is the new hamptons, apparently. the sloppy tuna is the place to go, but hanna and i were too busy traipsing around the woods and tanning by the pool to actually socialize with people our age. we were admittedly intimidated by the young, rich, preppy, and beautiful crowd. cars were gatsby-esque and the greenery was stunning (nothing compared to block island, but anything beats brooklyn!). we went for long walks and drank smoothies and vodka cranberries.
block island was a different animal completely. i was lucky enough to be on hanna’s family’s beautiful yacht, complete with blue lights, massive leather couches and a tiny havanese named tito. her family was absolutely lovely, a mother filled with warmth, sincerity, and sage advice, a father who is as charming, candid, and fun as he is enthusiastic. days in block were spent wandering the meandering roads, taking in the lusciousness. the sun melted flowers and grass and the most vivid shades of green upon the land. the water was cold and clear, invigorating. hanna and i took lots of pictures and tanned by day, frequenting a beautiful cemetery and the local bars (yellow kittens, captain nicks, ballards). we ate ice cream and laughed. the trip commenced with an eagles video concert and squidding.
