A super cutesy guide to the City of Angels for my Westward-bound friend…

American Superior Vintage: A very East-Village-esque but semi-affordable thrift shop on Melrose where you can buy everything from old records to denim jackets to tutus. (7377 Melrose)

Bottega Louie: A pastel wonderland in a massive white space in downtown Los Angeles. Go for the pink and green and blues of the pastries, and for the impeccable packaging. (700 South Grand Ave)

Crème & Sugar: Okay, technically Crème & Sugar is in Anaheim, but it’s home to a plethora of super colorful and decadent lattes, hot chocolates, and milkshakes including Unicorn and Mermaid themed drinks. The coffee shop is hidden in an inconspicuous strip mall but is a serious gem and would best be visited either before or after Disneyland. (6312 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road)

Disneyland: Pretty self-explanatory. Buy Minnie Mouse ears and eat overpriced candy. Arrive early to avoid the crowds. (1313 Disneyland Drive)

Glow Bio: A renowned juice and smoothie press with vegan treats and a variety of beauty and health boosters. A testament to the products’ efficacy, everyone that works there is super luminescent and friendly. (7473 Melrose)

The Hollywood Museum: The Hollywood Museum is a cinephile’s heaven, but also every glamour girl’s dream. The first floor alone is a makeup heaven, complete with Max Factor’s original cosmetic products used on Old Hollywood celebrities including Lucille Ball, Rita Hayworth, Jean Harlow, and Bette. Find Marilyn Monroe’s jewels, original model test shots, and bustier, rooms designated for actresses by hair color, and a plethora of ethereal antiquities straight from yesteryear’s stars… and I haven’t even considered all the props from Mad Men, Silence of the Lambs, and Superman (amongst others!). There is also a darling old school diner next door called Mel’s Drive-In that I wish I’d visited. I would recommend devoting at least two hours to the experience! (1660 N. Highland Ave)

House of Intuition: An overly aestheticized but admittedly wonderful spiritual store across the street from Wasteland. House of Intuition is one of several chains filled with bubblegum heart chakra bath elixirs, tarot decks, homemade candles, and all of the crystals you can imagine. I’ve seen their Violet Water at Urban Outfitters and thus deem the brand a little “commercialized,” but had a really fun shopping experience nonetheless. Their sparkly astrological prayer candles are a must-buy. (7449 Melrose Avenue)

Joan’s on Third: A super bright gourmet store/restaurant where you can buy delicious snacks and meals à la carte. Joan’s on Third is essentially Los Angeles’ Dean & Deluca, but with seating. (8350 W. 3rd Street)

Matcha Box: A self-proclaimed Matcha-teria with hyper-minimalist decor. I absolutely love matcha, and Matcha Box offers a variety of freshly made matcha drinks (hot or iced, made in the traditional style). You can sit in the window and read books on sustainable eating, wabi sabi, and the universe in general. A must-try. (8036 W. 3rd Street)

Museum of Death: I’d been hearing about the Museum of Death for years and I’m so glad I went… that being said, this museum is not for the slight of heart. The walls are coated in letters and drawings by murderers, bloody photographs, and killer memorabilia. Visit the Charles Manson Room, the Embalming Room, observe Jeffrey Dahmer’s handwritten notes, check out Richard Ramirez’s porno mags, and learn basically everything there is to know about murder, death, and funerals! Fun! (6031 Hollywood Boulevard)

The Original Farmer’s Market/The Grove/Cost Plus World Market: The LA Farmer’s Market is amazing! I especially love Bob’s Donuts and the tea shop, which features by the ounce elixirs. The Farmer’s Market is outdoors and it has literally everything a foodie (or Instagram foodie, to be real) could ever want. Beside The Farmer’s Market is The Grove, an outdoor mall bursting with flowers that includes a range of stores from Brandy Melville to Barney’s. Cost Plus World Market is DEFINITELY worth a browse through as well, you could spend hours in there buying gorgeous and affordable home accents, exotic snacks, and alcoholic beverages. It’s like a grocery store, Home Goods, and Anthropologie combined… and it’s inexpensive! (6333 W. 3rd Ave)

Pearl’s Finest Teas: A super cute bubble tea “boba” shop on North Fairfax. The store is very “Instagram” friendly, featuring a pink and green printed wall where you can photograph your brightly colored drink. I recommend ordering extra bubbles. (523 N. Fairfax Avenue)

The Polo Lounge: Stop into the Beverly Hills Hotel’s chicest restaurant just to order an overpriced cocktail, wander through the outdoor garden, snap some photos, and see how the other side lives. (9641 Sunset Boulevard)

The Now: A fabulous massage boutique that’s actually semi-affordable (prices are comparable to the East Village’s Chillhouse). The boutique and parlor is a realm of West Coast tranquility with quintessential minimalist decor. I had an excellent 80-minute massage wherein my “chakras were balanced” called The Healer. I would definitely recommend going early, even just to browse the crystals, oils, and incenses on sale in the front of the store. Spellbound Sky: The best, most mystical place you’ll ever go. I was desperate to visit this crystal garden to buy angel aura quartz à la Emily of FETE Clothing. Spellbound Sky was a little hard to find, nestled into a neighborhood overgrown with flowers, terra cotta, and CATS! The store itself was a witchy dream, complete with a larger-than-life Elvira cardboard cutout, neon signs, magic(k)al queens, and every element of dark kitsch imaginable. The friendly staff offered plenty of information on the store’s goods (including books, candles, palo santo, pentacles, etc.), and boxed every crystal I purchased along with a piece of paper including information on its properties. I promise that Spellbound Sky will be your new favorite store and that you will have to work not to spend half your paycheck there! (4210 Santa Monica Boulevard)

Urth Caffé: Urth, a super hippie and charming cafe chain offers plenty of vegan, gluten-free, and vegetarian options. Its Beverly Hills location is a cozy refuge from the dizzying glamour of Beverly Hills, so I can only imagine that its other locations offer similar sanctuaries. Wasteland: Wasteland, an upscale-but-geared to our generation vintage store with a 90s vibe that has been featured in Vogue, Rolling Stone, and Nylon. (7428 Melrose Avenue)
